The Struggle Beneath the Struggle
The struggle beneath the struggle is our identity. There is
always a side that we hide. And where does your identity come from? I think our
identity are from the things that we elevate ourselves with and become our
supreme focus, our chief pursues in life. We begin to focus on those things, it
begins to shape our identity and it control our life. It is an idolatry. John
Calvin said that “Human’s heart is an idol making factory.”. Our heart elevates
things and we do everything to pursue that thing and it begins to shape every
aspect of our life. Here’s what we do sometimes in our life, sometimes we
remove God in His righteous place and we elevate some other things sometimes it
is even a good thing, acceptance, love, relationship. If He's your number one
everything will lineup, everything will follow. When we begin to elevate things
to the supreme place that God should only be in we find ourselves in a pattern seeking those things more than anything else. We find ourselves in a
miserable place. John Calvin said that human’s heart is an idol-making factory
but I want to dig in on that “A broken human’s heart is an idol making factory.
We create these things that are good but they became ultimate things like
acceptance, love, and relationship. May be somehow in our life there was this
kind of wounded experience that we have some type of moment of brokenness where
we were rejected or we were hurt by someone, may be our father didn't love us
or our mother didn't accept. I heard someone said before “When there’s wound
there is a whisper”. There are those moments where we were wounded or something
happened and when the enemy comes around us and it began to whisper lies. When
there's a decision that we have to make will you believe on that whisper or the
other whisper which is the whisper of the Holy Spirit
There will be a whisper that will tell you that no one will
ever accept you, no one will ever love you and you’ll never be good enough, which
are all lies. And because our heart got broken and we began to form an idol, an
idol of acceptance and an idol of approval. So, this is how it goes you have
some wounded experience and you began to forms idols.
